BER MEASUREMENT

BER MEASUREMENT Read more

Modern Design Engineers are being asked to deliver wireless receivers with greater dynamic range, and broader Bandwidths. These constraints require the use of high quality instruments to model real world signal impairments and provide information about BER The UFX Eb/No, Precision SNR generator is specifically designed for testing wireless receiver BER (bit error rate). A standard test methodology is to provide a graph of SNR (Eb/No) vs. BER. This graph is often referred to as a waterfall diagram, where the X-axis is signal to noise, usually Eb/No, or C/N, and the Y-axis is Bit error rate. These diagrams are used to compare the theoretical dynamic range for a given modulation scheme, to real world measured values. For specific models, and general specifications please follow link to analog noise instruments, and select UFX Eb/No. Although the UFX Eb/No series is specifically designed for BER applications, other instruments can be used for this purpose (see the product links). CALIBRATION SOURCES

CALIBRATION SOURCES Read more

Noisecom has several module styles with varying BW, and power levels to calibrate Spectrum Analyzers, Microwave antennas, and Radiometers. Calibrating spectrum analyzers, or radiometers requires very flat, high ENR output noise sources. The NC346, and the NC3000 series provide this output, and have many convenient options including, bias supply voltage, RF enclosures, TTL on/off control, isolators, and connectors. Options may vary according to specific model; see the data sheet for specific model options. For additional information about this topic please contact Noisecom.

GPS SIGNAL TESTING

GPS SIGNAL TESTING Read more

Noise and interference testing on GPS navigation equipment is becoming increasingly important because of aviation, automobile, and emergency location usage of this equipment. Many people depend on this location information for business, pleasure, and emergency situations. Noisecom's digital GPS signal generators effectively test products based on today's standards. The GPS7500 instrument is specifically designed for testing RCTA D0-229, 235, and 253 aviation interference immunity standards, while the E911 can be programmed to input interference from common communication bands, like CDMA, WiFi, and 3G. The Noisecom programmable generators are capable of generating up to a 40 MHz wide noise or interference band for GPS receiver susceptibility testing. The Large 8.4 " color display contains unit block diagrams and tabular signal value inputs that make the creation of signals simple and intuitive. The digital noise generators can store many user defined noise and interference patterns on an internal hard disk. Modular capability provides for expansion with additional independent AWG plug-in cards for the GPS, Galileo, or GLONASS signal bands. JITTER AND PHASE NOISE

JITTER AND PHASE NOISE Read more

Digital designers are being asked to deliver chip sets, plug-in cards, and PC board bus designs with smaller timing budgets. These smaller budgets require the use of high quality noise sources to model real world signal disturbances (jitter), to provide information about BER. The new J7000 series instruments are designed for the latest serial data jitter applications, including PCI express, Serial ATA, and Fiber Channel. Whether looking in the time domain for jitter, or the frequency domain for phase noise, the new J7000 series can provide a high crest factor, Gaussian amplitude distribution noise output for your test requirements. For specific serial data applications including PCI express, Gen I & II, the J7000 series can be used as a random jitter (Rj) source as documented in the PCISIG total jitter (Tj) model. The standard J7000 models can be custom designed for multiple specifications with additional sources, combiners, and specialized filters. Although the J7000 series is designed for jitter, and phase noise applications, other instruments can be used for this purpose (see the product links). NOISE SIGNAL GENERATION

NOISE SIGNAL GENERATION Read more

This section includes products and application notes used in standard noise measurements. The applications include, Noise Figure, Noise Floor reference and Dithering. The products are specialized noise diodes, general noise sources, and precision noise sources. Our diodes can be used for a wide variety of AWGN output signals, including NF measurements, a precision reference level, and ADC dithering. Each diode should be selected for your BW, and output power requirements found in the data sheet. The peripheral circuitry will determine band flatness, final power, and output impedance characteristics. If design time is a constraint, Noisecom has standard modules designed for these applications. Follow the product links to noise sources, or precision noise sources. Custom modules are available with modified noise bands, power output levels, RF enclosures, and output connectors. Please contact Noisecom for more information regarding custom modules. VIDEO MEASUREMENT

Progress in the CATV world today means many things, Digital cable, High Definition video, (DOCSIS) data services (including high speed internet service), and programming on demand. Delivery of these services requires new equipment with improved traffic handling capability to accommodate the increased data rates. In general, digitally modulated, QAM signals will require new Cable Modems, Head-end Cable Modem Termination Systems, and improved Fiber Optic link equipment to transmit these signals over long distances with a minimum of distortion. Verifying the performance of this equipment requires new methods and Noise Based Test Equipment will play an increasing role. For test purposes, the nature of digitally modulated signals is closely emulated by AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise). BER-Bit error rate vs. Signal to Noise ratio (Es/No, C/N) is a key performance parameter for any digital communication system. This parameter determines how fast information can be transmitted and received for a given channel condition. The PHY-07 DOCSIS modem interoperability test calls out specific BER vs. C/N performance levels for both 64 QAM and 256 QAM signals. AWGN must be generated and combined with the signal in the correct ratio to properly evaluate BER vs. C/N. The general purpose, UFX7000A series is used for broadband video applications, and the UFX99CA has additional outputs for connection to other test equipment. The UFX 7109, and the UFX 7102, formerly the NC7102 are specified in the CableLabs document in the following link: http://www.cablelabs.com/udcp/downloads/TP-ATP-M-UDCP-I02-070105.pdf.

WIRELESS RECEIVER MEASUREMENT

WIRELESS RECEIVER MEASUREMENT Read more

Modern Design Engineers are being asked to deliver wireless receivers with greater dynamic range, and broader Bandwidths. These constraints require the use of high quality instruments to model real world signal impairments and provide information about BER. The UFX Eb/No, Precision SNR generator, and DNG7500 digital noise generators are specifically designed for current wireless communication standards, including WiFi, 2G, 3G, and WiMAX. The DNG7500 generates pseudo-random noise that can be used for NPR (noise power ratio) testing, while the UFX Eb/No generates precision signal to noise ratios (SNR). When combined with the user carrier signal these devices model real world signal impairments. Although the UFX Eb/No, and DNG series are specifically designed for wireless receiver applications, other instruments can be used for this purpose (see the product links).
